Founded in 1831 for the circulation of Protestant or uncorrupted versions of the Word of God
The Society has a number of volunteer-run auxiliaries and local committees which seek to further the Society's work and interests in particular geographical areas. The activities of these auxiliaries vary, but typically they seek to encourage membership in the Society and involvement in its work. Several auxiliaries hold public meetings for worship, prayer and/or information-sharing. Some are particularly active in the distribution of God's Word into schools, prisons, care homes, military establishments and other places in their local areas. At least one auxiliary in the recent past has bought advertising space to display the Word of God in prominent public places.
