William Tyndale, The Apostle of England This is a new publication—a concise study of the life and great work of the English Bible translator William Tyndale, to whom we are indebted for a significant part of our Authorised (King James) Version Bible. Tyndale was a faithful and brave man who died for his desire for the Scriptures to be read and understood in the English language. He valiantly prayed with his last breath as he was about to be burnt at the stake: ‘Lord, open the King of England’s eyes!’, a prayer which was wonderfully answered within two years, when King Henry VIII ordered for Bibles to be made available in every parish church.

In this article, based on an address by Dr David Allen, you can learn more about Tyndale, his great work, and his influence on our Bible and the English language. 500 years have elapsed since the completion of his New Testament, and this article is part of our efforts to commemorate this momentous event.

Almost 80 years ago, on 8 May 1945, the Lord granted victory to the Allied forces, bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe after six years of brutal conflict. During the Second World War, the Trinitarian Bible Society distributed many Scriptures among the armed forces, evacuees, and refugees, proclaiming the message of hope and salvation to people uprooted by conflict.

In recognition of this anniversary, we have published a commemorative VE Day 80th anniversary edition of the Gospel according to John. It features a message sent by King George VI in September 1939, commending the reading of the Bible to his people. A short preface outlines the work of the TBS during the Second World War.

We are very pleased to introduce the TBS Hampton Text Bible—a compact Authorised (King James) Version Bible in a completely new setting. With 250 million speakers, Russian is among the top ten most-spoken languages in the world; and, due to the dominant influence of Russia in the former USSR, it is still spoken in many of the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union. This makes it possible to distribute Russian Scriptures widely, including in Ukraine, Latvia, Armenia, and Kazakhstan.

The Trinitarian Bible Society continues to publish the Russian Synodal Bible (first published in 1876) in significant quantities and distribute it to a diverse range of recipients. The Russian Synodal Bible is widely accepted across denominational lines and is much loved by ordinary Russian Christians.
