Vietnamese Scriptures

During a recent visit to Australia, one of the Society’s General Committee members met a Vietnamese minister, who pastors a church in the east of the country. This new contact has had a burden for many years to provide the Vietnamese people with a faithful edition of the Scriptures.

Following his meeting with the TBS Committee member the minister asked to work with the Society to revise the Traditional Vietnamese Bible of 1925, which is largely based on the Critical Text. After the usual translator checks were completed satisfactorily, the Editorial Department recommended that the General Committee’s approval be given for the Society to commence a new Vietnamese Bible revision project. This recommendation was accepted at the December 2016 meeting of the Committee.

God willing, our contact plans to commence his revision of the Vietnamese Bible early this year. The work will primarily focus on revising the New Testament to conform to the Received Text, which is a challenging task. Thankfully, as our reviser pastors a Vietnamese-speaking church, he will be able to call on their help for reviewing and proofreading his work.

We are very grateful that our contact is willing to undertake this arduous task voluntarily, and would encourage your prayers for him as he embarks upon this new project to provide the Vietnamese people with a more accurate translation of God’s Word. ‘For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven’ (Psalm 119.89).
