Shona Bible
26 September 2019
Shona (Zimbabwe) – Zimbabwe has sixteen official languages since the adoption of its 2013 constitution, but the country’s main languages are Shona (spoken by approximately 70% of the population) and Ndebele (spoken by about 20%). The Society rejoices that, God willing, it will soon have complete Bibles available in both languages.
The TBS Ndebele Bible was first published in 2012 and since then has been reprinted several times. Meanwhile, the Shona translation team completed their work on the entire Shona Bible last year and the text was then approved for publication by the TBS General Committee in December 2018. Since then the approved text has been typeset and we hope that it will soon be ready for printing. We are aware that Shona speakers in Zimbabwe are eagerly anticipating the publication of the TBS Shona Bible next year, God willing.
The Society is grateful to the Zimbabwean Mission of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, under whose auspices the Shona Bible project is being carried out. ‘Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you’ (2 Thessalonians 3.1).
