Hindi and Bhojpuri projects
31 July 2020
Hindi, as a linguistic variety, is the fourth most-spoken first language in the world, after Mandarin, Spanish and English. Bhojpuri is considered one of several Hindi dialects and is a minority language in Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, South Africa, Suriname,
and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Society is working with a contact who is seeking to work in both Hindi and Bhojpuri. In recent months good progress has been made on the Hindi First Epistle of John, and the Editorial Department have just recently been able to recommend it to the
Society’s General Committee for approval to publish online. It is hoped that the Bhojpuri First Epistle of John will soon make that level of progress, but first we need a native speaker to help us proofread and evaluate the draft text. Please get
in touch with the Society if you are able to help us with this.
We would be grateful if you could remember these two related Scripture projects in your prayers. In particular, please pray that a Bhojpuri proofreader will be provided who can help move the project forward. ‘For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven’
(Psalm 119.89).
