Pokot New Testament

18 May 2021

Pokot is a language spoken by approximately 700,000 people, the majority of whom are tribal people living in the northern part of Kenya. For some years our main Pokot contact has been revising a TBS edition of the Pokot New Testament, which was published several decades ago and is in need of improvement. This is often the case with first editions of the Scriptures—consider how many English translations were produced before the eventual publication of the Authorised (King James) Version in 1611!

We are thankful to report that last November 5,260 copies of the revised Pokot Gospel according to John were printed in Kenya for free distribution there. In the meantime, our main Pokot contact continues to head up a revision committee which has now completely revised the text of the Gospels according to Matthew and Mark.

The Society provides financial support for the Pokot New Testament project using incoming funds that are specifically designated for this language. Please remember this project before the Lord as we seek to provide a faithful copy of God’s Word for this needy tribal people. ‘Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth’ (John 17.17).
