Spanish Bible Revision Project
08 November 2021
It is estimated that more than 437 million people speak Spanish as a native language, which means that it is second on the list of world languages by number of native speakers. Spanish is spoken in Central and Southern America as well as in Spain. Over the past decade we have witnessed intense interest in the TBS Spanish Bible revision project, as well as a remarkable hunger for the Word of God in almost all Latin American countries. In early 2020, GBS generously donated funds for the printing and distribution of 100,000 copies of the Spanish New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. At the time of writing, copies of these have now been received in every Latin American country apart from Cuba and Puerto Rico. The Lord has allowed good progress to be made on the Old Testament revision, despite two of the four team members becoming ill with COVID-19 in 2020, one of whom was seriously ill and hospitalised for two weeks, though mercifully he has now recovered. We are thankful that the first draft revision of the Old Testament is due to be completed in 2022. The Society is very grateful for the substantial financial support given by GBS for this major project. Please continue to remember our executive committee as they labour to finalise the Old Testament Spanish text. We are thankful for the help of the national reading committees and others who assist the executive committee. ‘Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father’ (1 Thessalonians 1.3).
