Amharic New Testament Published
19 December 2022
With thankfulness to the Lord, the Trinitarian Bible Society has been privileged to publish the Amharic New Testament and Psalms.
Amharic is a language that is primarily spoken in Ethiopia, a landlocked country in the horn of Africa. Speakers of this language are also found in the neighbouring country of Eritrea and in Egypt, Israel, and the USA. Approximately 21.6 million people speak Amharic in Ethiopia and other 4.5 million around the world.
An Amharic translation project commenced in 2012 and the Gospel according to John was published in 2015. Nearly 100,000 copies were shipped to Ethiopia and quickly distributed. At the end of 2021 the New Testament and Psalms was printed — 10,000 copies were printed in Europe and an additional 5,000 by Bearing Precious Seed in Milford, Ohio. Printed
copies arrived in Ethiopia in late 2022. Also in 2022, our registration in Ethiopia as a foreign‐based religious organisation was granted. This will help to import and distribute the recently printed Amharic New Testament and Psalms and to promote
our work and principles across the country.
