Chothe Bible Translation

09 January 2023

Chothe is one of the oldest tribal languages spoken in Manipur, India. It is a small language with about 4,400 native speakers, but the majority of the Chothe population is Christian.

During 2021 progress on our Chothe Bible was greatly hindered by the Covid‐19 pandemic, with our translator suffering the loss of key personnel in the church he pastors. After representation from TBS to the oversight committee, the translator has been able to resume the work and has reached 2 Corinthians; he now also has assistants typing up the translated text.

The TBS Chothe Bible is one of the first significant written productions in this language and so our translator is faced with scouring the language for the appropriate vocabulary and terminology. We are grateful for the contribution of TBS (Canada) towards this project.
