Chinese Scriptures

15 May 2023

Over 1.3 billion people speak Chinese, making it the most widely spoken language in the world; of these approximately 900 million people use the Mandarin dialect. It is the official language of China, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, and Taiwan, and its diaspora can be found throughout Asia, Australasia, Europe, and America.

This ancient pictographic language traces its roots back 3,000 years and today contains over 50,000 characters that can be written in traditional or simplified script. The TBS Chinese New Testament is written in simplified Mandarin Chinese. This has been published with copies expected to arrive at TBS offices this summer and can be read online at tbsonlinebible.com/#zh.

Earlier this year two thanksgiving services were held in the U.S.A. (where the translators are located) to thank the Lord for this milestone and share the New Testament with Chinese speakers. Lord willing, more thanksgiving services will be held later this year.

The translation team continues their work on the Old Testament and have made good progress on the Psalms and Pentateuch. Please continue to pray for the translators and that this translation will be a blessing to millions of Chinese Mandarin speakers.

‘While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal’ (2 Corinthians 4.18).
