Chichewa New Testaments for Malawians
05 June 2023
In 2020 the Society published the Chichewa New Testament and since then it has been reprinted in the tens of thousands — many of these have been given away free of charge in Malawi and surrounding countries. The photos seen here are of free distribution
efforts in Malawi.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Basic necessities such as clean water, sanitation, adequate housing, and health care are limited, particularly in rural areas. In the past year inflation has risen over 25% (from the previous year)
and with the average annual income being only $620 USD, most Malawians cannot afford to purchase Scriptures for themselves.

Lord willing, we hope the Chichewa Bible can be printed in the next few years. The Chichewa translation team have progressed well, having now completed the first draft translation of the complete Old Testament. Further, many of the Old Testament books
have been reviewed in detail and it is hoped that the text will be finalised this year. The opportunity will be taken to review the New Testament one more time before the complete Bible is published. In the interim, the Society will continue to grant
Chichewa New Testaments to grantees in Malawi.
