The Need for Digital Scriptures in Arabic

Arabic is the first language of more than two hundred million people and it is the official language in twenty-five countries. As the Qur’an is written in Arabic and all Islamic terms are Arabic, millions of Muslims around the world study Arabic at home and educational institutions.

The original, classical Smith-Van Dyck Arabic Bible, first printed in Beirut in 1865, can be difficult for twenty-first century Arabic readers to understand due to its limited vowelling. The Society therefore produced a more fully vowelled edition in 2011, which has been well received by Arabic speakers around the world. Our prayer is that these Scriptures will prove to be a blessing and a means of salvation to many.

As one of the languages most widely spoken in the world we desire to have a digital text available of the Arabic Bible. To that end we pray that we may be brought into contact with well-qualified native Arabic speakers to prepare the digital text of the Society’s middle-vowelled print edition of the Smith Van Dyck Arabic Bible. Please pray that such a person would come forward with a desire and ability to complete such a task.
