Chothe Bible Translation

17 July 2023

Chothe is one of the oldest tribal languages spoken in Manipur, India. It is a small language with about 4,400 native speakers. The majority of the Chothe population is Christian.

Over the past year better progress has been made on our Chothe Bible. The translator has now reached Galatians, having completely drafted the preceding books of the New Testament. The TBS Chothe Bible is one of the first significant written productions in this language; currently, there are just a few Christian booklets and hymns published in the language, so our translator is faced with scouring the language for the appropriate vocabulary and terminology. There is just one small glossary in Chothe, which is inadequate. A Chothe Literary Committee has been formed to list the vocabulary more fully. Please pray for this particularly challenging translation endeavour.

‘O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever’ (1 Chronicles 16.34).
