French Revision Project

28 August 2023

Since 2013 the Society has been revising the 1872 Lausanne Bible. Extensive changes have been made to bring French tenses and vocabulary into greater conformity with modern usage. In the Lord’s goodness, the New Testament was published earlier this year.

Our friends at FGEA have already sent 18,000 copies of the New Testament to French-speaking countries in Africa. Further copies are being distributed across the Francophone world by various other individuals and organisations. We were also very encouraged by the New Testament launch thanksgiving services held in April in France and Quebec, Canada.

In the Old Testament, the team have finished revising the books of Psalms and Proverbs and we hope that in due course it may be possible to print these books together with the New Testament. Further draft revision work has been carried out on the Pentateuch and Joshua.

We are grateful to our friends at TBS (Canada) for their financial and prayerful support of this project. ‘As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith’ (Galatians 6.10).
