New Testaments in Brazil
06 September 2023

One of the Society’s branches is located in Brazil, where it focuses on distributing the Portuguese Bible. Approximately 250 million people speak Portuguese: 200 million in South America (primarily in Brazil), 30 million in Africa, 15 million in Europe,
and then also throughout the Portuguese diaspora. It is the official language in Portugal and Brazil, as well as Angola (Central Africa), Cape Verde (Africa), Equatorial Guinea (Central Africa), Guinea-Bissau (West Africa), Mozambique (East Africa),
São Tomé and Principe (Central Africa), and Timor-Leste (Asia).
By the grace of God, Bibles, New Testaments, and Gospels have been sent out from this branch. Since the branch has opened, over 10 million Portuguese Bibles and over 198 million copies of the New Testament have been distributed (the New Testaments primarily
through special partnerships), and over 14 million individual Bible app users reached; a total number of over 220 million copies of the Portuguese Scriptures distributed. A recent grantee sent us the following note.
'It has been awesome to have the New Testaments here in Brazil where we have been distributing them throughout the prisons. The inmates are overflowing with gratitude! May the Lord reward all your efforts and may the light of the resurrection of Jesus
illuminate all your paths!'
