Nepali Bible Translation

Nepal is a small country of 27.8 million people, sandwiched between the vast nations of India and China. The Nepali language is the mother tongue of 16 million, and a lingua franca of many more. Besides in Nepal, the language is spoken in parts of India and Bhutan. It is derived from Sanskrit, the foundation shared by several neighbouring languages.

In God’s goodness the Society’s 2011 Nepali Bible has become established as a standard edition among Nepali speakers across the world. We have been able to license the use of the audio text to quite a number of other organisations, and it has also been used by a third party in a diglot edition with the AV text. A braille edition has been circulated. The lightly revised second edition text of the Bible, in which the language has been adapted more towards that used in Nepal, is now in circulation and has been well received, particularly in Nepal.

‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father’ (Philippians 2.10-11).
