192nd AGM
25 September 2023
Many reasons for expressing thanks to the Lord were presented at the 192nd Annual General Meeting of the Trinitarian Bible Society. In the preceding year 2.9 million Scriptures and Scripture items in 40 languages had been distributed to recipients in
112 countries, to the glory of God. One example was given of free distribution in Kenya in a number of languages. It had also been possible to publish the Chinese and French New Testaments and the Spanish Bible. Other projects were progressing well,
and seventeen new translation projects had begun in the past year. The Society were also thankful for the provision of new staff to replace those who had retired or moved on. The financial situation remained healthy.
More than a hundred years ago the Gospel first came to the hill tribes of Manipur in northeast India. The first converts were from the Vaiphei tribe, and the Rev. Dr Robert Vaiphei from Manipur addressed the meeting on the history of the Bible and Gospel
amongst them. Fully Christianized, they had waited a long time to have the full Bible in their language. A revision was now being brought to publication by the Society as copies were very scarce. Dr Vaiphei also mentioned the ethnic conflict in Manipur
in which hundreds of churches and homes had been burned down in recent months.
In the afternoon service, the former chairman, now Vice-President Mr Gerald D. Buss preached on the Trinitarian benediction of 2 Corinthians 13.14. This brought the time of thanksgiving to an appropriate conclusion.
