Lhaovo and Lisu Scriptures
24 October 2023
Lhaovo and Lisu are two different languages that are both spoken in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and China. All of the Lhaovo New Testament and a small part of the Old Testament are available in digital format and the original TBS Lisu Bible—which was first published in 1980—is also available digitally. The Lhaovo language is a stable indigenous language with approximately 100,000 speakers mostly in Myanmar, but it is also spoken in China. The Lisu language is more broadly spoken with nearly one million speakers throughout southwest China and Myanmar. It is also found in pockets of Thailand and India. We continue praying for both of these projects and that people competent in these languages would be found to help us evaluate the accuracy of the texts. ‘I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him’ (Isaiah 43.6-7).
