Zou Bible Project (Manipur, India)

21 November 2023

The Zou language is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by the Zou people, primarily in the north-eastern region Manipur. It is part of the larger Kuki-Chin-Mizo group of languages. With its distinct phonetic features and grammatical structure, the Zou language reflects the rich cultural heritage of its speakers. Agriculture forms a significant part of their livelihood, and the Zou people are skilled in cultivating crops in the hilly terrains of their homeland.

In 2019 the Society’s General Committee agreed to formally commence a project in the Zou language, of which there are approximately 200,000 native speakers. The Zou Bible has been typeset and is currently being reviewed by the translators. It is hoped that it will be published during 2024 or early 2025. We are grateful for the partnership of firstBible International who have committed to raising the funds for this Bible to be printed by Bearing Precious Seed of Milford, Ohio.

There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God’ (1 Samuel 2.2).
