Hindi

Hindi is the sixth most spoken language in the world and one of the two official languages of the government of India, the other being English. Hindi serves as the lingua franca for a significant portion of the Indian subcontinent. With roots dating back
to ancient times, Hindi has evolved over centuries, blending indigenous languages with influences from Persian, Arabic, and Turkish. There are over 500 million native speakers.
Our translator was able to finish a second draft of the Gospel according to John earlier this year, which included valuable feedback from our Nepali Bible translator who has a superb eye for detail. He has also translated more than half of Matthew in
first draft. We continue to pray for further native Hindi speakers, committed to TBS principles and with a critical eye for grammatical and other translational details to work alongside our translator, who hopes soon to spend some time in India. God
willing, further Hindi helpers can be gathered during his extended visit there. Our translator also has some contacts in India and Nepal, who will help him prepare a new translation of the Gospel according to John in Bhojpuri, an Indo-Aryan language
native to the Bhojpur-Purvanchal region of India and the Terai region of Nepal.
Please remember this project in your prayers. ‘Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages,
world without end. Amen’ (Ephesians 3.20-21).
