A Bible for the Tedim Zokam People
05 December 2023
Tedim Zokam is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by the Zomi people, primarily in the Chin state of Myanmar and parts of Northeast India. This is a developing language with 61,000 speakers within Burma, and a further 20,000 speakers outside of the country.
While such tribal languages are spoken by relatively few, many of these tribes have very high numbers professing Christianity, of which at least half would be committed Christians. This means that it is very important that these strongly Christian tribal
groups have a faithful edition of God’s Word in their own heart language, something that is also essential in helping to strengthen the church.
Early in 2023, we rejoiced to receive the New Testament text after many years of labour by the translation team. The Old Testament text was received in the autumn and all the files have now been input to our editorial system and thoroughly checked, together
with some supplied cross references. We await a few final checks before notifying our graphic designer that the Tedim Zokam Bible is ready for typesetting. Please pray for our translators as they labour amid some very challenging circumstances.
