A New Norwegian Translation

12 December 2023

The Society has been in touch for some years with a translator in Norway, working on a new edition of the Bible in Norwegian, primarily using the English Authorised Version but with secondary reference to the underlying Biblical texts. The translator recently informed us that in his final review of the Bible, he has finished the New Testament. In terms of the Old Testament, he has begun with the poetic books and is making good progress. He hopes to finish the Old Testament by the end of this year, God willing.

Norwegian is spoken by about 5.5 million people, primarily in Norway, a Scandinavian country in the northern reaches of Europe. The language shares linguistic roots with Danish and Swedish, although over time, Norwegian has evolved into a distinct language with its own unique characteristics. The Norwegian-speaking diaspora can be found in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Remember this project in your prayers and that in due time the Norwegian Bible may be published. ‘So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it’ (Isaiah 55.11).
