The Kalenjin Translation Project

15 January 2024

Kalenjin is one of the many tribal languages belonging to the Nilotic family. There are several million Kalenjin speakers in Kenya, but little published literature in the language.

Since 2014 TBS has been working with a team in Kenya to prepare a new faithful translation of the Kalenjin Scriptures directly from the Biblical languages, with secondary reference to the Authorised (King James) Version and other extant Kalenjin Bibles. The Kalenjin New Testament has been typeset and is currently undergoing its final checks before being sent to the printers.

In the past twelve months the translators have made good progress with the Old Testament and hope to finalise it in the coming year, Lord willing. Translations of the Society’s articles The Lord Gave the Word and A Textual Key to the New Testament have also been prepared. As we look forward to the publication of the entire Bible in due course, please remember this project and the translators before the Throne of Grace.

‘For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth’ (Psalm 33.4).
