Modern Greek Translation Project
06 February 2024
Of the 7,168 living languages, many Christians may be familiar with the Greek language. The New Testament was written in Koiné Greek, a form of Greek from which the modern Greek language is derived from. Today, modern Greek is spoken by over 13 million
people, primarily in Greece but also in Albania, Cyprus, Italy, and Türkiye.
A project has been ongoing to prepare a new translation of the modern Greek New Testament directly from the Society’s edition of the Koiné Greek New Testament. In recent months the Gospel according to John in modern Greek was approved for publication
and has been typeset. It is now undergoing its final proofreading before being prepared for print. We hope to publish it this year, Lord willing.
Please remember this project and the translators in your prayers. ‘Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle
feed in large pastures’ (Isaiah 30.23).
