French Revision Update

05 March 2024

Approximately 275 million people throughout the world speak French. All five continents have pockets of native French speakers, and it is the official language in 29 countries including France, Algeria, Belgium, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Switzerland.

Since 2013 the Society has been revising the 1872 Lausanne Bible. Extensive changes have been made to bring French tenses and vocabulary into greater conformity with modern usage. In the Lord’s goodness, the New Testament was published in 2023.

The team have finished revising the books of Psalms and Proverbs, and we hope that in due course it may be possible to print these together with the New Testament. Draft Old Testament revision work on the books of Moses has been completed, and the team are now well through the book of Joshua.

With so many people around the world speaking French, we are thankful for the publication of the New Testament and the progress made on the revision of the Old Testament. We are also grateful to our friends at TBS (Canada) for their financial and prayerful support of this project. Please remember this project before the Throne of Grace.

‘Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it’ (Psalm 119.140).
