2,000 Bibles for Angola
09 April 2024

By God’s grace, a grantee in Angola received 2,000 Portuguese Bibles in March.
The Society was established in 1831 and in 1835 we commenced our first translation project after receiving a gift of 50 pounds sterling to aid in the production of a new translation in a foreign language. Because little work had been done by
other Bible societies in producing a translation in Portuguese, this was selected by the Trinitarian Bible Society as the language of their first translation project. In 1839 we published the Portuguese New Testament and in 1847 the Bible. Since then, we have done a few revisions, but still today we publish and distribute thousands of Portuguese scriptures every year.
Angola is a Portuguese-speaking country in central Africa. It is home to 30 million people, most of whom would identify as Christian, of which 54 per cent would identify as Roman Catholic, 27 per cent as Protestant, and the remaining as other Christian
sects. We are thankful that we can continue to provide grantees in Angola with faithful copies of God’s Holy Word.
Please continue to pray for the distribution of God’s Holy Word around the world. ‘And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature’ (Mark 16.15).
