Portuguese Bibles

The Society was established in 1831 and in 1835 we commenced our first translation project after receiving a gift of 50 pounds sterling to aid in the production of a new translation in a foreign language. Because little work had been done by
other Bible societies in producing a translation in Portuguese, this was selected by the Trinitarian Bible Society as the language of their first translation project. In 1839 we published the Portuguese New Testament and in 1847 the Bible. Since
then, we have done a few revisions, but still annually we publish and distribute thousands of Portuguese scriptures.
Portuguese is a diverse language that has a rich cultural and historical heritage; it continues to evolve and thrive in various regions of the world, but most notably in countries where it is the national language: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor,
Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, and Portugal. It is estimated that 220 million people speak the various dialects.
The TBS Portuguese Bible is available in four editions from the UK store.
