Progress on the Arabic Bible Digitisation Project

21 May 2024

In July 2023 we asked for prayer that a native and qualified Arabic speaker would be found to help us with the digitisation of the Smith-Van Dyck Arabic Bible. We are thankful that these prayers have been answered and an Arabic speaker is now checking the files of the Arabic Bible and assisting with the digitisation work. The work has commenced with the Gospel according to John and this has recently been submitted.

The original, classical edition of the Smith-Van Dyck Bible can be difficult for twenty-first century Arabic readers to understand due to its limited vowelling. The Society therefore produced a more fully vowelled edition in 2011, which has been well received by Arabic speakers around the world. It is the 2011 edition that we are now working on digitising.

How to pray for this project:

  • Pray that the digitisation work will progress well and that in due time an Arabic Bible can be published on our Online Bible App.
  • Pray that the Arabic speaker is thorough and accurate in his work.
  • Pray that the digital Bible will be used and appreciated by many of the 200 million Arabic speakers around the world.
