Mauritian Creole Translation Project

Mauritian Creole, also known as Morisien, is a French-based language spoken by about 1.3 million people in the Republic of Mauritius, a subtropical island in the Indian Ocean about 1,200 miles off the southeast coast of Africa. 

A creole is a language that is formed when different languages mix and proceed into a new and expanded language in a short time. There are about one hundred known creole languages around the world. While Mauritian Creole is French-based, it also borrows from English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tamil.

The TBS Mauritian Creole project began in 2020 and we are pleased that the Gospel according to John has recently been completed. It has been typeset and proofread, and we are now working on the final preparations for publication. We look forward to the publication of the Gospel in due course.

How to pray for this project:

• For the final preparations for publication of the Gospel according to John.
• For the people of Mauritius to receive and read this new translation.
• For the translator and the translation team as they work on the translation of the other books of the Bible.
