French Revision Project Updates

09 July 2024

Since 2013 the Society has been revising the 1872 Lausanne Bible. The French New Testament, published in 2023, has been very well received, especially in Francophone Africa. We give thanks to God for the tens of thousands of copies of this New Testament that have been printed since we first published it less than two years ago. It is hoped at some stage to publish the New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. The New Testament can be read on our online Bible, and more information in French can be found on our French website

Work in the Old Testament continues to proceed. The team first translated the Psalms and Proverbs before translating the Pentateuch; they are currently revising 2 Samuel.

We are grateful for several organisations, including FGEA, who have been instrumental in distributing the New Testament. Approximately 40,000 New Testaments are planned for distribution in Africa in partnership with FGEA which has kindly been funded by GBS. Finally, we are thankful to our friends at TBS (Canada) for their financial and prayerful support of this project.

How to pray for this project:

  • Pray for wisdom and guidance for the revisers along with prayers that they continue to make good progress on the Old Testament revision work.
  • Pray for the proofreaders and members of the reading committees.
  • Pray for the distribution of the New Testament in Africa, and for distribution avenues to be opened in other parts of the French-speaking world, including France, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, and the USA.
