Dan/Gio New Testament
23 July 2024
Dan/Gio is a tonal language spoken in Liberia and the Ivory Coast by 1.6 million people. In 2008 the Lord raised up a new team who began revising the Dan/Gio New Testament. For sixteen years a small group of project leaders based in Monrovia (the capital
of Liberia) has led a team of translators based in Nimba county, in rural Liberia.
After years of careful checking of the tone marks, spelling, vocabulary, and sentence structure, the Dan/Gio New Testament text has been finalised and approved for print. The team continues to progress with the Old Testament with initial draft translation
work completed up to 1 Samuel.
The Lord has kindly provided funding for the printing of the New Testament through the generosity of a particular congregation. Meanwhile, the Old Testament translation is being generously funded by firstBible International.
How to pray for this project:
- Pray for the printing and delivery of the New Testament into Liberia.
- Pray for one of the translators who suffered a stroke last year.
- Pray for the planning of the thanksgiving and launch services, and for the distribution efforts thereafter.
