Hindi John Published Online

Hindi, an Indo-European language, is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Together with Urdu the two languages are known as ‘Hindustani’ and unitedly they have well over 300 million native speakers. Hindustani is spoken mostly in India and Pakistan.
Christianity amongst Hindi speakers in India sits below three per cent, with only a minority of Christians identifying as Protestant. Christianity is thought to have come to India in the second century. Various Protestant missionaries have been present
in India since the early eighteenth century, including William Carey who translated the New Testament into Hindi.
We are very thankful that the Lord supplied native Hindi speakers to work alongside our translator. These men are committed to TBS principles and have a critical eye for grammatical and other translational details. The additional help enabled the Hindi
Gospel according to John to be finalised, and this has recently been published on our Online Bible App. Our translator has also completed a draft translation of the Gospels according to Matthew and Mark in Hindi, the latter together with a Roman script
text in Urdu.
Lord willing, the Hindi translator will speak at our Annual General Meeting in September.
How to pray for this project:
- For the translator as he works on several translation projects, including Hindi, Urdu, and Bhojpuri.
- For the distribution of the Gospel according to John, both in print and digitally.
- For the translator’s travels to London, UK, and his speaking engagement at the AGM.
