50 Bibles for Australian School Children

In recent years the Society has published several commemorative Bibles to mark special occasions. The Australian 1788 Bible is one of these commemorative editions. Fifty of these Bibles were recently sent and received by a secondary school in Australia.

While it is often difficult for schools to accept Bibles, we have found that special-edition Bibles receive a wide reception. Tens of thousands of Bibles have been distributed in schools across the UK and our branches this way.

In 2023 TBS (Australia) published a special commemorative Bible marking the first Christian worship service held on Australian soil, on 3 February 1788. The congregation numbering almost 1,500 gathered under a large tree and consisted of convicts, soldiers, sailors, political prisoners, and officials, all having just arrived in the new colony from Great Britain, as part of the First Fleet. The Bible with its distinctive cover features an oil painting of the tall ships entering Sydney Harbour and commemorative pages.
