‘And lead us not into temptation’

The Pope of the Roman Catholic church has altered the Lord’s Prayer translation from ‘lead us not into temptation’ to ‘do not let us fall into temptation’, thereby misrepresenting the original, biblical Greek text. The Greek verb used in the original text clearly means ‘lead’ or ‘bring’; the Pope’s interpretation neglects the literal meaning, prioritizing his own theological notions. The true meaning of the petition is a request for God's protection against situations that could tempt believers, while recognizing that God does not actively lead people into sin.
