Türkish Bible Project

15 October 2024

In the Türkic language family, of which there are 200 million speakers, Türkish is the most widely spoken with approximately ninety million speakers. Türkish is predominately spoken in Türkiye, Cyprus, and Northern Cyprus. While the Türkish-speaking diaspora can be found throughout the world, there are substantial groups of Türkish speakers in England and Germany.

Mission work in Türkiye began in the early nineteenth century, but one hundred years later indigenous Türkish believers were but a handful. Today, while few in number, there are believers in Türkiye.

We are thankful to the Lord for the excellent progress on the Türkish Bible revision project. The Old Testament files have been submitted, along with the four New Testament Gospels. After this work has been completed by January 2025, Lord willing, a few months will be needed for proofreading to ensure there are no spelling or punctuation errors.

Our reviser has already started making use of the revised Old Testament in preaching and it has been well-received; we pray that many other churches will come to adopt the translation in time.

How to pray for this project:

  • For the revision of the remaining New Testament books to go smoothly and with accuracy to the Greek Received Text.
  • For Türkish Christians to see the need for a faithful and accurately translated version of God’s Word, and for churches to adopt it as their translation.
