New! Manobo Bible Translation Project

08 April 2025

Manobo is a language spoken by approximately 320,000 people. The Manobo are an indigenous group from Mindanao in the Southern Philippines, comprising nine subgroups speaking 15 languages. Besides a Christian population, some are Muslim, and some are animists (some of whom live in the jungle area and have never heard the Gospel). They are an agriculture-based society, and some have grievous practices such as polygyny (men having more than one wife).

As with so many nations and people groups around the world, the Manobo need the Scriptures in their own heart language. A native-speaking pastor is working on a pilot project of the Gospel according to John. We hope that in due course we will be able to publish this, and that many of the Manobo people will come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.

‘My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways’ (Proverbs 23.26).

How to pray for this project:

  • For a faithful and accurate translation of the Gospel according to John to be published and distributed among the Manobo people.
  • For the Manobo people to receive the Gospel and that many will be brought to faith in Jesus Christ.
