Hindi Bible Translation Project

Hindi, an Indo-European language, is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Together with Urdu the two languages are known as ‘Hindustani’ and unitedly they have around 600 million native speakers.

In recent years TBS has commenced a Hindi translation project, with reference to the earliest editions of the Old Version Hindi Bible compared with later revisions. It is with great rejoicing that the Hindi Gospel according to John was published last year, and is now available in print and on our Online Bible App. Our translator is well underway with translating the rest of the New Testament. In early 2025 significant promotion, entailing conferences and meetings, was undertaken very successfully in India.

We have found that a reliable Hindi Bible translation opens the door to work in many related Indian languages. Using technology and a standard format, we can draft translations in sister languages like Bhojpuri, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Chhattisgarhi, and Marathi. These drafts are then refined by native editors. Though many are unaware, hundreds of millions speak these languages and need an accurate Bible translation.

How to pray for this project:

• For the translator and proofreaders to be given wisdom and guidance as they translate and revise the text. Pray that the translation will be a faithful and accurate translation of God’s Holy Word.
• For the subsequent translations that will be made based on the Hindi to proceed without hindrances.
• For all the translation projects to be used by the Lord for the expansion of His Kingdom.
