Zokam Bible Project

06 May 2025

Location Myanmar/Northeast India
Speakers:  250,000
Project Status:  Bible

Zokam is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by the Zomi people, primarily in the Chin state of Myanmar and parts of Northeast India. Our translators estimate that around 250,000 people speak the language, though other sources suggest a range between 60,000 and 400,000.

While such tribal languages are spoken by relatively few, many of these tribes have very high numbers professing Christianity, of which at least half would be committed Christians. It is very important that these Christian tribal groups have a faithful edition of God’s Word in their own heart language, something that is also essential in helping to strengthen the church.

Translation Progress

After decades of translating the Bible into Zokam, in 2023 the translators sent us the files for the whole Bible. It has since undergone our Translation Analysis Check and editorial checks. As a result, extensive spelling changes were made in 2024, and we are now nearly ready to proceed to typesetting.

Please Pray

  • For our translators, who continue their work in difficult and often challenging conditions.
  • For our graphic designer, who will typeset the Zokam Bible alongside several other Bibles and New Testaments.
  • For the final stages— the proofreading, publication, and the distribution of the Zokam Bible to churches and individuals in the Zomi community.
