The High Price of a Bible in Kenya

12 August 2025

How long do you have to work to pay for a Bible? A recent grantee told us that in Kenya a Bible costs between two and four days’ wages. For many people, purchasing a Bible is simply not within their means; they would have to work for a long time to afford a Bible, after all their daily expenses are covered.

The grantee wrote to us:

I gave the Scriptures to people in groups and also individuals. All the people who received the Bibles were so happy and appreciative. They praised God because of the Trinitarian Bible Society for making the Word of God available to them. I also witnessed a new love for the Word of God in the hearts of people who had no copy of Scriptures at all on their homes. Youths were happy for receiving the small size Bible which is easy carry. The version is also good and was very much loved by Christians. It was a challenge to older people [because of the] small font. They requested for larger print so that they can also benefit … I was also ashamed because the Bibles were few and many who wanted did not receive.

We thank all those who continually pray and donate towards the distribution of God’s Holy Word.

‘More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb’ (Psalm 19.10)
