Cebuano Translation Project
Cebuano, also referred to as Bisaya or Binisaya by most of its speakers, is primarily spoken in the southern Philippines. While it is not recognised as an official language in the Philippines, it is a native language for 24 million people. The language
borrows heavily from Spanish and English.
A pilot project has been established beginning with a translation of the Gospel according to John from the Received Text with the aim that it conforms to it as closely as possible. We have received a draft version of the Gospel, which is now undergoing
editorial checks.
‘For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven’ (Psalm 119.89).
How to pray for this project:
- For the translator as he endeavours to produce a faithful and accurate translation.
- For Cebuano speakers to desire a faithful and accurate copy of God’s Word in their heart language.
- For the editorial team as they evaluate the text using the translation analysis and editorial system.
