Introduction

BSL has been officially recognised as a language in its own right since March 2002 and has its own grammar and syntax, as well as vocabulary that includes the expression of vital and complex Biblical truths. There are around 87,000 who use BSL as their preferred language (where English may be a second or third language) and currently there are around 151,000 individuals in the UK who can use BSL (not including translators and interpreters).

Translation Project

The Society is has begun a new project for Deaf people, with an experienced British Sign Language (BSL) translator having just begun a pilot with the Society to provide a BSL translation. We are grateful to the Lord for sending someone who has considerable expertise and is able to work on a volunteer basis for the Society. Work has begun on the Gospel according to John. The project is based on the Authorised Version and will consist of a video recording of a presenter signing and be divided by chapter. It will eventually be made available through tbsonlinebible.com. We hope this might provide a vital resource for Deaf people, both Christians and evangelistically.
