West Anglia Auxiliary

(Formerly Beds, Herts and District Auxiliary)

About UsOpen +Close -

In response to growing expressions of support from friends interested in expanding the work of the Trinitarian Bible Society in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and the surrounding district, the Society was pleased to form a new Auxiliary for this area in February 2007. The Auxiliary was officially launched at an inaugural meeting at Clifton in Bedfordshire, at which many local ministers of the Gospel as well as representatives from a good number of local churches were present.

Following this meeting, several men were appointed to oversee the growth of this important work, with the aim of increasing local interest in the work of the Society as well as fulfiling the Society's primary purpose of circulating copies of God’s Word in the Auxiliary’s designated area. Indeed, the main aim of the West Anglia Auxiliary, uniting with that of the Society as a whole, is to promote the Glory of God and the salvation of men, by circulating, both at home and abroad, in dependence on the Divine blessing, the HOLY SCRIPTURES, which are given by inspiration of God, and are able to make men wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

In desiring to fulfil this aim, one of the chief activities of our Auxiliary is to encourage the distribution of God’s Word and TBS literature in local schools, prisons, nursing homes, doctors’ surgeries, military establishments and other public places.

With the Lord’s help, the West Anglia Auxiliary cooperates closely with the Society’s headquarters, and, through knowledge of the local area, provides practical assistance in the distribution of God’s Word. The Auxiliary is already actively engaged in distributing copies of the Scriptures in this area, and an Auxiliary Coordinator has been appointed, who holds a stock of Bibles, Text Posters, and other publications for FREE distribution.

In order to further this objective, we are encouraging as many local churches and assemblies as possible to appoint to the Auxiliary representatives who are willing to seek opportunities for circulating the Word of God in their immediate locality.

Seeking your SupportOpen +Close -

As an Auxiliary, we would like to ask any believers who are members of a local church or assembly in the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and surrounding district prayerfully to consider making the following commitments to spread the Word of God and advance the aims of the Society.

  • Do you desire the Word of God to be instrumental in bringing light and life, through the Gospel of Christ, to those around you who are lost in sin and in the darkness of false religion and unbelief?
  • Are you aware of, or would you be willing to actively seek, opportunities to spread the Word of God in your immediate church locality?
  • Would you consider becoming a representative to the Auxiliary on behalf of your church, or to bring the work of the Auxiliary and of the Society before the Lord in prayer?

The Auxiliary could help you by providing practical advice on how best to approach organisations with a view to placing accurate copies of the Word of God into the hands of lost souls.

Our ObjectivesOpen +Close -

In summary, the aims and activities of the Auxiliary are as follows:

  • To promote the aims of and interest in the Society by circulating and distributing uncorrupted copies of the Word of God in the region.
  • To work with and promote interest among local churches in furthering this work.
  • To seek opportunities and to facilitate practically the distribution of the Word of God in local schools, prisons, nursing homes, military establishments and other places as opportunities arise.
  • To arrange prayer meetings to bring before our gracious God the work of the Society as a whole and the interests of the Auxiliary in the region.
  • To promote membership of the Society in the region.

We humbly acknowledge our utter dependence upon our gracious God for His divine blessing upon this endeavour, and seek only His glory and the increase of His kingdom, especially in the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and surrounding District.

Railway Posters

The West Anglia Auxiliary had arranged to have the Word of God displayed on railway posters at the following stations this year, God willing:

  • Letchworth Garden City Station:
    22nd April – 6th October 2019 (24 weeks)
  • Cambridge:
    3rd June – 28th July 2019 (8 weeks)
  • Northampton:
    3rd June – 28th July 2019 (8 weeks)
  • Stevenage:
    3rd June – 28th July 2019 (8 weeks)
  • Kettering:
    8th April - 5th May 2019 (four weeks)

In early 2009 the Auxiliary, in seeking further to promote the Word of God, prayerfully desired to display large Scripture posters within the local towns and cities—to be seen and read of all men. In entire dependence upon the Lord to supply the funding for this campaign, the committee sent out a letter explaining its intent to local churches and assemblies. In response we were amazed at the good hand of the Lord in providing initial donations in excess of £6,000, thus enabling us to commence the work.

There have since been poster campaigns in Luton, Bedford, Cambridge, Potters Bar, Hitchin, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Watford, with many requests for free Bibles. Funds permitting, the Auxiliary desires to continue displaying posters of various sizes in suitable locations. The Auxiliary is always willing to cooperate with local churches, assemblies and individuals who see an opportunity for displaying these posters.

Recent Activities: Bible DistributionOpen +Close -

Bibles and other publications are given throughout each year wherever there is a felt and requested need for them. In recent years more than 800 copies of the Bible have been distributed for free to people in prisons, nursing and residential homes, as well as to individuals and schoolchildren, and have been provided for use in open-air ministry work.

In 2011, copies of the special commemorative editions of the Authorised (King James) Version Bible, published by the Society to mark the 400th anniversary of the Authorised Version, were given to 71 senior schools in the Auxiliary area. In 2012, copies of the special commemorative editions of the Authorised Version Bible, published by the Society to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, were supplied widely to churches, who purchased them to give to local schoolchildren. More than 2,300 copies passed through the Auxiliary for this purpose. In certain specific cases, the price charged to purchasing churches was subsidised by the Auxiliary.
