A Thirst for the Word of God

It is always encouraging to hear of a thirst for the Word of God in other countries. Our Senior Deputation Speaker recently sent us the following report:

Over two hundred Russian Golden Thoughts Calendars, together with a few Russian Bibles, are now on their way to Magadan (a port on the shores of the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia). There is an insatiable appetite for the Word of God in this part of the world. I heard of one elderly lady, who, when she heard that Russian Bibles might be available at meetings in Leningrad, travelled for nine hours to obtain one. When she arrived all the Bibles had already been distributed. This dear lady sat upon the floor and wept bitterly. My contact enquired through an interpreter why this lady was so distressed and discovered she had never had a Bible. He was able to give her a TBS Russian Bible whereupon her mourning was turned to inexpressible joy.

‘Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price’ Isaiah 55.1.
