TBS Chinese Scriptures

16 March 2021

Chinese is spoken in many different dialects but is commonly written in either simplified or traditional Chinese. Simplified Chinese is the official written language of China. For nearly seven years a small team of Mandarin Chinese speakers have been undertaking a new translation of the Bible directly from the Hebrew Masoretic and Greek Received Texts into simplified Chinese.

We are pleased to report that the four Gospels along with Romans and Hebrews have just been approved for publication. It is planned to publish the text online on our Chinese webpage and partners in the USA desire to produce a printed booklet. The rest of the New Testament will undergo several more draft stages before being finalised.

Please remember our Chinese translators and others who work on this project in prayer. It is a great responsibility to prepare a new translation of the Scriptures for almost one billion people. We are thankful for the imminent publication of part of the New Testament but long to see the publication of the whole New Testament and then the entire Bible.

‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen’ (Matthew 28.19-20).
