Prisons and the Word of God
11 July 2023
The Society sends Bibles and Scripture items to chaplains in the UK and around the world. A chaplain recently sent a heartfelt letter expressing his thanks for the gifts received. The following is a portion of this letter. Thanks for all your continued support and help. The men that I support here in the prison really do enjoy the items you give us. Last week I had a lad come to me and tell me that he was getting out soon and that he had given most of his items away to help other men. But when asked by one of the men if they could have his calendar that he had got from me (it was one of your Words for Life calendars that you asked us to look at giving) he said sorry but now he wanted that; he has really enjoyed looking at it each day ... Now those outside prisons may not understand this but for us that work in prisons, this is probably one of the best complements you will ever get. The items you give us make a difference and help me to do my ministry in a way that has never been done before so a really big heartfelt thanks … I wish that we could pay you for these items, but I just do not get any budget for this and if I could I would happily give you funds as what you do makes a difference. I look forward to hearing from you in due course. We will continue to pray for you and all the work that you do. If I can ever help with your funders by telling them how much of a difference your items make to non-church-going people then please let me know as I would willingly tell them how you support myself and my ministry here.
