Spreading the Gospel Through Calendars
24 July 2023
Over 2,000 Golden Thoughts calendars were sent to a grantee in Nigeria to be distributed freely throughout that needy country. The Society publishes two calendars in a variety of languages: Golden Thoughts and Words of Life. The Golden Thoughts calendars were first designed and distributed by Miss Amy Young and her brother during World War II. In the calendar’s early years one thousand Golden Thoughts calendars were distributed annually but by 1970, when Amy Young passed the preparation and distribution of the calendar to TBS, circulation had extended beyond 70,000. Today TBS continues to publish the calendar in ten languages with over 350,000 copies circulated annually. The following letter was received from a grantee who received 1560 English, 361 French, and 261 Hausa Golden Thoughts calendars. Calvary greetings. English edition of Golden Thoughts calendars 2022 was distributed mostly by evangelistic teams of the ministry in the course of their outreach both in the towns and villages. Some of the first contacts have received Christ into their lives and some of them are now part of the evangelistic teams. Some of the recipients are regularly using the calendar for their daily prayer in the family, office, and other places of work. Hausa and French copies were normally circulated in the outreach to the Hausa and French language communities. Our focus on the teachers of the two languages is yielding useful results as the teachers that received Christ into their life are very useful in spreading the Gospel to others. The prison visiting team are more active and regularly requests for more copies of the calendar for their assignment in prisons. They use both English, Hausa, and French copies of the calendar for their preaching and follow-up assignments. As the converts increases, the demands for free English Bible copies also increase from the Evangelism teams. Therefore, I humbly request for supply of English Bibles for distribution to new converts. The prisoners are the most constant in their request of a free Bible. Please remember the distribution and evangelistic efforts in your prayers. ‘We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father’ (1 Thessalonians 1.2-3).
