Prisons: Part 3 (Calendars)

The following is the third and final part of the series about a letter the Society received from a prison chaplain. The chaplain spoke about the Words of Life calendars that were freely distributed to inmates. Please remember these calendars in your prayers and that they would be a continued blessing and encouragement to many around the world, whether in prison or not.

One of the biggest items that we get requested for is the calendars. These are requested by men who come to church and Bible study but also mainly from men who have nothing to do with chapel, Bible study, or services.

The other day I found out why when I went into some of the men’s cells who do not come to chapel. The whole wall was covered with this year's and last year's calendars. When I asked them why they gave me the following reasons:

• It brightened his cell up
• The words gave him encouragement
• He felt that there was hope through the words and pictures
• They helped him to not self-harm and think about life beyond the prison
• They cancelled out the voices that tormented him and while they were up the voices could not win

This was so encouraging to hear and see.
