The Believer’s Love

‘He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him’ (John 14.21).

What is the place of the Word of God in our experience of Jesus Christ in connection with His manifestation to our souls? We could summarise John 14.21 in this way: love to Christ is discovered by obedience to the Word of Christ. A person—one who shows his love for Christ by his obedience—will be loved of the Father and indeed loved of the Son, and to such a gracious soul Christ will manifest Himself. May Christ manifest Himself to us under the means of grace even at this point.
