Report of the 193rd AGM

24 September 2024

On Saturday 21 September 2024, the Trinitarian Bible Society held its 193rd Annual General Meeting at the Metropolitan Tabernacle.

The Chairman, Dr Marcus Keogh-Brown, opened the meeting by reading Psalm 119.1-16, and spent a few minutes focusing on verse 11, ‘Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee’. The Psalmist has reverence and love for God, and a desire to follow after Him and sin not.

Mr Jonathan Arnold presented his report on the overarching work of the Society. The work of the Society continues, with many translators and translation projects. New items, such as Scripture posters, are being added to our line of products. The Society was pleased to continue providing Scriptures to those throughout the UK and the world. He concluded his report with a warning on the upcoming publication of a new version of the Critical Text; and an encouragement to uphold the providential preservation of God’s Holy Word.

Mr David Broome, Resources Director, gave his report on the financial resources of the Society. A summary of the 2023 financial details (which can be found in more detail in QR 648) was given. The work continues to expand, and the Lord has increased the funds accordingly. In the past year, we have increased our granting of Scriptures, two new distribution centres were opened in Colombia and Ethiopia, and several conferences were held in Latin America and the UK.

The Editorial Report was given by Mr Matthew Vogan, Editorial Director. The Lord has extended our endeavours with the start of several new translation projects. In the coming months and years, we hope several New Testaments and Bibles nearing completion will be published. Tracing the work of William Carey, he compared and highlighted the similarities between Carey’s work and the work of the Society.

The Operations Report was presented by Mr Philip Blows, the Operations Director. In summary, in 2023 3.26 million Scriptures and Scripture items, in 38 languages, were sent to 111 countries. The bus shelter campaign went well, as did the children’s quiz. The UK auxiliaries distributed over twenty-five thousand Scriptures and Scripture items.

Several motions were then raised, voted, and passed.

Mr Gil Lodder of the Gereformeerde Bijbelstichting, extended greetings from the GBS board and encouraged the continuation of the work of translating and distributing God’s Word.

To conclude the meeting, a guest speaker, Pastor Deepanker Nandy, spoke on ‘The Need for an Accurate Hindi Bible’.

After lunch, a service of worship was held and the Rev. W. Irwin, member of the General Committee, preached. Based on 2 Timothy 3.13-17, the message highlighted what the Scriptures say and reveal about themselves and the impact they have on the world. The message included departing and adhering to the Scriptures, along with its authority and adequacy.
