Of the 7,168 living languages, many Christians may be familiar with the Greek language. The New Testament was written in Koiné Greek, a form of Greek from which the modern Greek language is derived from. Today, modern Greek is spoken by over thirteen
million people, primarily in Greece but also in Albania, Cyprus, Italy, and Türkiye.
Work to translate the Society’s edition of the Koiné Greek New Testament directly into current literary Greek has progressed well. The Gospel according to John has been published online and the print
edition has been sent to the printers.
‘But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name’ (John 20.31).
